Dear Friends of Pathways,
An update on the HUB:
As you know, Pathways of Hope has seen a huge increase in the number of people seeking emergency food at our HUB, due to the many devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an effort to provide the highest quality of service to as many struggling people as possible, we have decided to open two volunteer opportunities that will take place inside the HUB beginning June 1st, 2020

***Please note: If you are in the COVID-19 high-risk category, please wait to volunteer onsite until it is safer for you to be out in the public. Consider participating in one of our remote volunteer activities instead!
Two new volunteer opportunities at the HUB:
Building Bags of Food & Food Stocking & More at the HUB
We need help to build bags of food to hand out at the HUB, organize fresh and pre-packaged food, sort food and hygiene supplies, accept grocery rescue deliveries, help receive deliveries of pallets of food, unload and break down the pallet, assist with filling out donation forms, weigh donated food, organize the storage bins, and disinfect and clean the refrigerators and working areas.
Days: Monday through Friday
Times: 9 AM – 12 Noon
Location: HUB of Hope, 611 S. Ford Ave., Fullerton, 92832
Number of Volunteers: 2 per day
Requirements: Sign a COVID waiver, wear a face mask, wear gloves, be able to lift 30lbs, and wear closed-toed shoes
Food Distribution & Client Registration & More at the HUB
We need help to register clients and distribute food bags from the inside of the HUB to clients who stand outside the HUB. There will be absolutely no physical contact with any clients, we have installed a plexiglass at the distribution door, and a 6’ clearance will be maintained between volunteers and clients at all times. Other duties may include bringing donated food or PPE into a designated location inside, moving food and other stock items, cleaning and disinfecting the work areas, assembling hygiene kits, and organizing the back area.
Days: Monday through Friday
Times: 12:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Location: HUB of Hope, 611 S. Ford Ave., Fullerton, 92832
Number of Volunteers: 2 per day

How we are minimizing risks of volunteering onsite:
Volunteers must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including a face mask covering both nose and mouth, as well as gloves during their shifts. You will also need to sign a COVID waiver with a release of liability. If you are in the high-risk category, please wait to volunteer onsite until it is safer for you to be out in the public.
Since the inside of the HUB is an enclosed space, please know that at times you will be working near our employees or other volunteers who will also be working inside. We cannot guarantee there will be 6’ clearance at all times as they pass by your work area.
We are limiting the number of people admitted inside the HUB for the safety of our employees and the volunteers. We are also minimizing risks by encouraging volunteers to take more than one shift each week to reduce the total number of individuals who enter the building.
Regular cleaning and disinfecting will be part of the daily volunteering task to make sure that the environment is as safe as possible.
What this look like in action:
Wearing their masks, volunteers will approach the right exterior door of the HUB and wait until a staff member greets them and admits them into the building. All volunteers will be expected to wash their hands, use sanitizer and put on a fresh set of gloves, which will be provided, as needed.
There will be a meeting huddle at the beginning of each shift and at the end of each shift. Tasks may vary from day to day and coordination with our staff is vital throughout each shift.
We are asking for prompt and reliable volunteers who can commit to the hours listed for each description every week. Our staff and the people we serve are depending on you!
The HUB work-flow process has changed considerably since the COVID-19 outbreak and volunteers can expect to find a lot of changes. Volunteers will find labels where items are placed and some of the shelves have been moved to accommodate space to complete bag assembly.
Please note that processes and procedures will continue to change as we adapt to our changing environment and determine the best ways to keep staff and volunteers healthy and safe while bringing back more services in house over time.

More details about volunteering onsite at the HUB:
Clients will not be allowed inside (unless it is raining) and will be greeted at the door with a plexiglass partition. Registration has been streamlined to improve speed of processing and will be done 6’ away from the clients behind the plexiglass. When distributing food, volunteers will place the food bags on a table under the plexiglass and the client will pick up the bag after a 6’ distance has been created by the volunteer or staff.
Pathways asks that volunteers please minimize the number of personal items that you bring into the HUB. All personal items must fit in a small area near the lanyards in the office area.
These instructions are not meant to intimidate you, but to prepare you so you have a better understanding of how we are operating and so you can make the best decision about whether or not to sign up to assist with these opportunities.
