A message from David Gillanders, Executive Director
During these unprecedented times in community health and our local economy, the question I have been asked most frequently is, “Where are you seeing the biggest increase in need?”
The answer to that is simple: eviction/homelessness prevention.
The reason for that is also simple:
Since the pandemic began, we have seen scores of people come through the doors at the HUB, telling different variations of a similar story: “I lost my job, and even when my additional unemployment benefits expire, I don’t think my job will exist.”
This is a heartbreaking dialogue to have with our community.
We have all heard about the potential for an eviction crisis of unimaginable scale, which would undoubtedly drive up homelessness considerably. Thanks to assertive action by cities like Fullerton, and now the action taken by the CDC to temporarily halt evictions, we have helpful moratoriums in place.
But what will happen when these expire? Will fellow residents, through no fault of their own, because of this pandemic and the economic havoc it is wreaking, be saddled with an unimaginably expensive bill for past rent?
Again, a simple answer: Yes.
This is why we have asked you to donate and sponsor in support of our Angelo’s & Vinci’s Magical Virtual Fundraiser. We are raising funds to support critical operational expenses and to provide financial assistance to our struggling neighbors to ensure that they never become homeless.
To those of you who have donated in the past, we are so grateful for your prior support! We ask that you consider stepping up and donating again today on behalf of our community’s most vulnerable residents.
To those of you who are just learning about our agency, I hope that this message is helpful in painting a picture of the resources our neighbors in need are desperately seeking, and how you can be a part of the solution today.
If you are able, please consider making a donation in support of our fundraiser
The housing stability of any community is a good first indicator of overall community health. We all need to do our part to ensure that stability of our community members and neighbors is a priority for all of us.
You can demonstrate it’s a priority for you by making a contribution today!
Thank you for your generous support of people in our community who are struggling and seeking hope at Pathways.
